Modular Sports Floor Installation & Acceptance
6-step modular flooring installation from base check to final acceptance: base requirements, expansion gaps, laying direction, lines, edging, handover checklist.
Golmud No.3 Middle School (2024) — high-altitude installation
6-Step Process
- Base check: flatness ≤5mm/3m, slope 0.3-0.5%, cracks <5mm
- Color/direction: CAD pattern for multi-color; seam offset 1/2 for large tiles
- Center-out laying: keeps the main court tiles whole, cut tiles at edges
- Expansion gaps: ≥2cm perimeter; 5mm every 15m for large courts
- Line marking: color tiles (never fade) or outdoor paint
- Edging: aluminum or plastic edge strips
Acceptance Checklist
| Item | Standard |
|---|---|
| Flatness | ≤5mm per 3m |
| Locks | No loosening/lifting |
| Expansion gaps | ≥2cm perimeter |
| Line accuracy | ±5mm to FIBA spec |
| Drainage | Drains in 5-15 min |
Common Mistakes
Insufficient expansion gaps (90% of buckling), corner-start laying (line misalignment), unleveled base, no edge finishing, skipping the water test. After install, follow maintenance.
FAQ
Need professional installers?
Factory or factory-trained crews recommended — gaps, direction, lines and edging have details outsiders miss.
Lay over old silicon-PU?
Yes if flat with no bubbling/delamination; otherwise repair base first.
Install in winter?
5-40°C OK; below 0°C not recommended (lock brittleness). Northern projects best in spring/autumn.
Usable after install?
Immediately — no glue cure. 24h light use recommended to adapt to temperature.
Installation cost?
Industry norm 20-40 RMB/㎡; small courts a flat 2,000-5,000 RMB.
